Former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer was recently picked up off of waivers by the Buffalo Sabres.
Reimer had been having a slow start with the Anaheim Ducks and the team decided that it would be the best thing to just move on.
Having said that, this is a signing that is bringing forth a bit of controversy for more than a couple of reasons.
James Reimer Signs in Buffalo
Firstly, the fans are upset because, well, Reimer isn't all that good anymore. His statistics have gotten progressively worse over the past few seasons.
At the age of 36, he just isn't the goaltender that he used to be, and the Sabres fanbase was hoping for someone at least a little bit better.
Moreover, many are taking issues with the views that Reimer has expressed in the past when it comes to the LGBT+ community. Reimer has been a staunch critic of pride nights and has refused to wear any kind of rainbow jersey or stick tape.
With that being said, there are some Sabres fans out there who believe that the signing is truly objectionable.
Of course, others are going to disagree. But when you look at Reimer's statistics, it becomes pretty clear that he isn't exactly worth the trouble, in the first place.
Only time will tell whether or not this is a signing that ends up working out for the Sabres. At this stage, they have a lot to worry about beyond just goaltending.
