Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares had a huge moment against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the call from Joe Bowen wasn't exactly enthusiastic.

This season has not been amazing for the Toronto Maple Leafs so far. A few nights ago, John Tavares scored his 500th goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but it came during a blowout loss.
There was very little fanfare around the goal, and Maple Leafs fans were not able to celebrate such a massive milestone appropriately.
Joe Bowen was on the call for the goal, and as you probably noticed, his energy wasn't meeting the moment. However, that's not exactly his fault. When you detach the goal from the milestone, you realize that it was quite meaningless in the context of the game.

Joe Bowen apologizes to John Tavares

Even Tavares himself barely celebrated the goal. Afterward, on the bench, he was despondent and had to be consoled by head coach Craig Berube.
Recently, Joe Bowen was on 'Leafs Morning Take,' where he discussed the Tavares goal. Here, the play-by-play broadcaster was remorseful.
He even went so far as to apologize to Tavares. Bowen feels embarrassed by the call and wants to make it up to the forward by any means possible.
I'm embarrassed by the call. I really am. I did him a disservice, and I apologize for that. We were upset, we were disappointed, we were frustrated, and you could see that on John's face.
It should be noted that Bowen didn't need to apologize. It's not like he insulted the forward or did anything particularly egregious.
What this does do is showcase just how good a person Bowen is. He loves the game of hockey, and he also loves the players.
The man takes his job seriously, and with this being his final season, he wants to make sure that he puts his best foot forward, which is very honorable.
