Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar got to play with Mitch Marner at the 4 Nations Face-Off and today, he gave his true thoughts about the Toronto Maple Leafs star.
Cale Makar and Mitch Marner were high-profile teammates just about a month ago as the best players in the NHL congregated in Montreal and Boston for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
They played for Team Canada and in the end, they won the entire tournament with a huge overtime victory against Team USA.
Tonight, Marner and Makar are going to be rivals as they take each other on in a matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche.
Cale Makar gives his opinion of Mitch Marner
The Maple Leafs winger is going through a lot right now, especially as it pertains to his contract situation which the media has been on his case about.
Moreover, the team is about to embark on a playoff run, which is typically around the same time that Marner starts playing his worst hockey of the season.
However, while talking to the media, Cale Makar defended the Leafs superstar, saying that he is a competitive player and a committed one at that.
«He's a very competitive, committed guy. I know all the media here tend to give a lot of guys a hard time. He's a really complete player Playing with him at the 4 Nations, I found that he was always in the right areas.»
While compliments like this from other superstars is good, it doesn't mean anything if Marner plays poorly once the playoffs come around.
Fans want to actually see some results this season and if those do not come, then Marner is going to continue to get some well-deserved criticism.
As for Makar, he already has a Stanley Cup to his name and with 78 points in 68 games, he is easily one of if not the best defenseman in the entire NHL.
