Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews went down with an injury against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, and he's not out of the woods just yet.
Auston Matthews was not having his best night against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, although things went from bad to worse in the second period.
When he remained in the locker room to start the third period, concerns began to mount. The Leafs are in the midst of a three-game losing streak and cannot afford to have their captain miss significant time.
Craig Berube gives an update on Auston Matthews
After the game, reporters flocked to head coach Craig Berube, where they asked if there were any concrete updates on the Maple Leafs captain.
It was here that Berube admitted Matthews needs further evaluation. It was also revealed that this was a lower-body injury, and not a concussion like some had feared.
As for
Anthony Stolarz, it was revealed that he was pulled due to an upper-body injury. However, it doesn't appear as though this is as much of an issue right now.
Regardless, the fact that Matthews needs to be evaluated tells us he might have to miss a bit of time, which is a worst-case scenario.
The Maple Leafs remain near the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings. On Thursday, they will play the Los Angeles Kings, who just got done clobbering the Montreal Canadiens.
Needless to say, the Leafs do not have an easy schedule right now. Instead, things are actually going to get very difficult coming up.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, you cannot be too enthusiastic about this team right now, as every game, it feels like things get worse.
