Craig Berube Reveals Whether or Not Leafs Prospect Easton Cowan is Ready for the NHL

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has been working hard to make the team, and with opening night a few days away, Craig Berube is speaking out.
Easton Cowan has been one of the biggest stories of training camp so far, as the young star is trying to earn a spot on the team.
He has built tremendous chemistry with guys like Steven Lorentz and Scott Laughton, which has made it seem like a fourth line spot is guaranteed.
Unfortunately, Laughton is now injured, which means Cowan's spot on the roster is no longer a guarantee. He won't develop as a 13th forward, which suggests the Leafs might send him to the Toronto Marlies to start the season.

After last night's final preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube spoke about Easton Cowan.
When asked about the kid's NHL readiness, Berube was very honest, saying that he has done all the right things. However, hard decisions still have to be made.
I think he is. We got decisions to make, but I think he showed us enough that he is ready. I mean, he's got a motor on him ... Like, he's just constant work & he's got a high IQ. I like him a lot
At the end of the day, Cowan is still young, and spending time with the Toronto Marlies is nothing to be ashamed of whatsoever.
Having said that, the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be eager to bring him up whenever possible. He's exciting, and he draws in the fans.
This week, we will have a sense of whether or not the Maple Leafs will keep Cowan on the roster. After all, cuts are expected either today or tomorrow.
Overall, it is going to be fascinating to watch, and we hope that the Maple Leafs make the right decisions here.
