Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf has found himself with the Toronto Marlies to start the season, and as a result, the trade rumors are running rampant.

David Kampf is a player who has been demoted to the depths of the Toronto Marlies lineup. He has played four games so far in the AHL this season and has only managed one assist.
One could make the argument that Kampf's days in the NHL are practically over. After all, how many teams out there are actually going to give up assets for him?
At 30 years old, he still has a lot to give to the game, but the issue is whether or not those teams want whatever he is offering at this stage in his career.

Are the Toronto Maple Leafs trading David Kampf?

Having said that, Darren Dreger is reporting that the Toronto Maple Leafs are seriously looking into trading David Kampf, seeing as though he won't be promoted anytime soon.
They want to clear out some of their salary cap, and getting rid of Kampf would help them tremendously. Of course, they need to find a trade partner first.
The Leafs have at least looked into the idea of moving both David Kämpf and Nick Robertson. For Kämpf, who's now in the AHL, it's mainly about clearing some money off the books.
As for Nick Robertson, he is also someone the Maple Leafs are thinking of trading, but only if the price is right. For instance, it seems like they want a player of a similar age.
When it comes to Kampf, the Leafs cannot be too picky. In fact, they may only get a sixth or seventh round pick in return. They may even need to include a draft pick to entice another team.
It's not a great situation to be in, but that is what happens when you sign guys to longer-term deals than they probably deserve.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs can get themselves out of this mess, once and for all.
