Ryan O'Reilly was someone the Toronto Maple Leafs were thinking about bringing back last season, although that proved to be dead on arrival.
Ryan O'Reilly's time with the
Toronto Maple Leafs was not particularly productive. Fans wanted him to be a top center on the team, and while he was solid, he was not Cup-winning caliber.
Last season, the Maple Leafs were desperate for a middle-six center at the trade deadline. Not to mention, the Nashville Predators were awful, and there was a sense that O'Reilly could leave.

Scott Laughton instead, which is a move that the jury is still out on, at least for right now.
