Ex-Maple Leafs Center Signs PTO Just Weeks Before the Start of the Regular Season
The NHL regular season is going to start soon, and with training camp on the horizon, a familiar face to the Toronto Maple Leafs has just signed a PTO elsewhere.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, then you have seen a ton of players come and go over the past few years. Some have been better than others, with a few guys never actually making the team.
A couple of seasons ago, fans saw center Dylan Gambrell pass through the team. He never played a game for the Maple Leafs, although he did have a full season with the Toronto Marlies, where he had 36 points in 66 games.
Overall, Gambrell is a solid player who has had stints in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks and the Ottawa Senators. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old has had a hard time finding work this Summer.
Dylan Gambrell gets a PTO
Training camp is set to begin soon, which means teams are signing guys to PTOs as a way to bolster their rosters and potentially bring in new blood.
That is exactly what we saw with
Gambrell on Monday, as it was reported by The Daily Faceoff that the forward had signed a PTO with the Nashville Predators.
The Predators are a team that struggled quite a bit last season, so it only makes sense that they would want to bolster their offense and bring in a guy like Gambrell.
In 233 games, Gambrell has just 40 career points, which is certainly why he has had to bounce around the NHL and the AHL over the past few seasons.
He can play some defensive shutdown hockey, but it remains to be seen whether or not he will actually end up making an NHL roster.
If he doesn't make the Predators this season, then there is always a chance that he could play in a different league, like the KHL, or anywhere else in Europe.
No matter what, we are wishing Gambrell the best of luck in his PTO.
