Mitch Marner is now a member of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and head coach Bruce Cassidy is comparing the forward to Jack Eichel, a Stanley Cup champion.
Last week,
Mitch Marner went to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in a sign-and-trade for the ages. It brought back
Nicolas Roy to the Toronto Maple Leafs,
but the Golden Knights got the better player. Now, Marner is the superstar on the Golden Knights alongside none other than Jack Eichel. Overall, both players are phenomenal, and they have similar origin stories.
For instance, Eichel couldn't even get to the playoffs as a member of the Buffalo Sabres. However, under head coach Bruce Cassidy, he won a Stanley Cup.
Bruce Cassidy on Mitch Marner
During an interview with 'Leafs Morning Take,' Cassidy acknowledged that Marner and Eichel are very similar in their origins. However, he also stated that he won't treat Marner any differently.
Furthermore, the depth to which Cassidy is able to coach Marner will entirely be up to the superstar winger. Cassidy notes that he hasn't really developed a relationship with Mitch yet, and that could take some time. At first, that relationship might just be strictly hockey.
Overall, the Golden Knights are paying Marner $12 million per season, which means they expect him to perform when the lights are the brightest.
The Golden Knights have developed a culture of winning in their first eight years in the league, and they will not settle for any less.
Having said that, Marner is going to have to be at his best; otherwise, he could face the wrath of the organization very quickly.
Whether or not Bruce Cassidy is able to change his ways, still remains to be seen.
