Hockey Fans Are Livid With Sportsnet After an Ill-Advised Price Hike on Controversial Service

Sportsnet re-upped on its television rights deal with the NHL recently, and now, the fans have to pay for it with a huge price hike to Sportsnet+.
Sportsnet+ is a service that a lot of fans find to be hit or miss. Sometimes, the streams are buggy, while other times, the streams aren't even 1080p.
Moreover, some fans have experienced blackouts, even when there aren't supposed to be any. Despite all of this, Sportsnet is still upping the price.
According to multiple people on social media, Sportsnet+ is going from $250 per year to $325 per year. That is a $75 increase for a service that isn't exactly "premium."
Sportsnet+ price hike affects Hockey fans
The notice that Sportsnet sent to fans has been making the rounds on social media, and many are finding it to be completely tone deaf to the needs of the average hockey fan.
For example, the fan below says they will be canceling the service and will simply move on to other things, such as pirating.
We wanted to let you know that effective September 9, 2025, the price of your Sportsnet+ Premium annual plan will increase from your current price of $249.99 plus applicable taxes per year to $324.99 plus applicable taxes per year. This change will be reflected on your next billing date from September 9, 2025 onwards, unless you cancel or modify your subscription before then.
Of course, we would never recommend going down that route. However, with inflation and prices the way they are, we can understand where the fans are coming from.
At the end of the day, this is anti-consumer, and fans have every right to feel some kind of way about it.
For now, it appears unlikely that Sportsnet will change course and go with a different price. If they do, however, we imagine they will get some praise.
Ultimately, life as a hockey fan is getting more and more expensive these days.
