Connor McDavid just lost his second-straight Stanley Cup Finals, and now, he must make a very difficult decision as he is set to become a free agent in 2026.

He can sign an extension as of July 1st, or he can simply wait until next Summer to make a decision. His latest comments about returning to Edmonton have sent fans into a frenzy, and there is no telling what will happen next.

All we do know is that Toronto Maple Leafs fans are trying to get themselves excited about the unlikely prospect of signing the forward next offseason.

It is a long shot that McDavid would ever want to come to Toronto. In fact, reports from insiders like Chris Johnston prove that the Leafs probably have no shot, at least not right now.

Instead, Johnston believes McDavid might just sign a short-term deal in Edmonton, which would be the franchise's last chance to get him a title.

Winning championships in the NHL is not easy, even if you have two of the best players in the league. The Oilers are proof of this.

Hopefully, the Oilers can find a way to win for McDavid. Those fans certainly deserve something positive after all the pain they have gone through.
