Nick Robertson is entering arbitration with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and some are wondering whether or not the Leafs even want to keep him around.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Nick Robertson has been met with numerous question marks as of late, and no one truly knows what is going to happen to him.
Although he is a solid player, he performed below expectations last season. He only had 15 goals and seven assists, which isn't exactly setting the world on fire.
Now, Robertson is entering arbitration with the Leafs, and no one knows for sure whether or not he is going to remain with the team past this process.
What are the Toronto Maple Leafs doing with Nick Robertson?
There have been rumblings for months that Robertson could be traded. Even during the trade deadline, there was a feeling that a deal could come to pass.
However, nothing happened, and the forward stayed with the team through the postseason, where he was subjected to numerous healthy scratches.
According to Chris Johnston, Robertson is likely here to stay. Based on what he is hearing from sources, the Leafs would much rather keep the forward around.
It has been difficult enough trying to build out the bottom-six, and with Robertson gone, they would have to find more talent.
Furthermore, the team wants to trade Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf. These aren't amazing players, but moving them would create some holes.
As for Robertson, he still has some time to develop, but we're not so sure the Leafs are happy with him being a project.
At this stage, they want a full functioning NHL player who can handle lots of ice time and score goals at a consistent rate.
