James Reimer is back with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a PTO, and he even has a new number, considering Auston Matthews currently has his old one.
Woll is in the midst of a leave of absence, and in the interim, the Leafs need a steady backup for starter
Anthony Stolarz.
Reimer spent the first six seasons of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and as you can imagine, there is a lot of fanfare around his return.
In fact, some have been wondering about his jersey number. During his first stint, he was number 34, which now belongs to captain Auston Matthews.
James Reimer back on the ice with the Toronto Maple Leafs
On Saturday, Reimer joined the Maple Leafs at practice, and we got to see the latest updates to the goaltender's setup.
As you will see, he is now wearing the number 47. Interestingly enough, he still has a Maple Leafs goalie mask, which is truly the cherry on top.
At the end of the day, it is unlikely that Reimer plays a lot of games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially when you consider this is a temporary position.
However, we still do not have a concrete update on
Joseph Woll, and Reimer could very well bring some NHL experience to the fold.
We are excited to watch Reimer, and perhaps he will even get a start in the preseason later this week.
Over the next week or so, we will be eager to follow this storyline and wherever it takes us.
