Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev has been out of the lineup for a couple of weeks now, and it's all because of an injury that is all too common.
Since joining the team in 2024,
Chris Tanev has easily been the best defenseman on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and yes, even better than
Morgan Rielly.
Overall, Tanev is one of those players who just know how to get the most out of his game. He is all over the ice, and he keeps guys out of the crease.
During that time, there has been a lack of communication regarding his diagnosis. The only thing we know is that it is an upper-body injury.
Chris Tanev was dealing with a concussion
On Friday, David Alter of The Hockey News confirmed that Tanev actually suffered a concussion. This makes sense, as we saw the defender's head snap back initially.
Concussions can be very hard to come back from. Sometimes, they go away after a few days, and sometimes, it can be weeks.
Tanev returning to the lineup will be huge for the Leafs, although it is still unconfirmed whether or not he will draw in tonight.
Saturday night's game is against the Philadelphia Flyers, and it is a game that they are hoping to win, especially after a poor start to the season.
Elsewhere, the Toronto Blue Jays are also in action tonight, and we imagine the average Toronto sports fan will be tuning into that instead.
Regardless, we are happy to see Tanev on the up and up, and we are excited to see him back in his usual spot on the top defensive pairing.
