Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton has not been able to play a single game this season, and it is clear that this has been weighing on him heavily.

Scott Laughton is someone who struggled on the Maple Leafs at the end of last season, and going into the 2024-25 campaign, there was the hope that he would improve.
In the preseason, his chemistry with Steven Lorentz and Easton Cowan suggested that he would have a major bounce-back season.
Unfortunately, he got injured in one of the final two preseason games, and he has been out of the lineup ever since.

Scott Laughton talks missing time with the Maple Leafs

On Friday, Laughton was back on the ice at practice and was rotating in and out of the lineup, which is certainly good to see.
While he probably won't play against the Philadelphia Flyers, he did speak to the media, where he was asked about the mental toll of not being on the ice.
This is where Laughton offered some heartbreaking comments, as he noted that he just wants to be back out there so he can prove his talents.
Some days are definitely harder than others. I've been pretty fortunate over the last couple of years to be able to play a lot of games, so it's hard sitting out - it's hard watching. That's the toughest part, just sitting up there and watching when you want to be out there. You want to be around the group and be involved.

You try to keep yourself grounded. The staff here has been great with me - I'm working with them and just trying to get back as soon as possible, making sure everything's ready to go. I don't want to be out there if I'm not at my best. I want to be able to help. So yeah, it's tough some days, but it's been good overall.

When Laughton does come back, it will give the Leafs some continuity and some flexibility up and down their lineup.
With the Leafs having some trouble in the early going of the season, Laughton could very well be the boost that they desperately need.
Based on everything we are seeing, it appears as though Laughton could be back as soon as they upcoming week.
