With training camp about to begin, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been biding their time when it comes to making moves, while other teams are bringing in PTOs.
Toronto Maple Leafs fans have been waiting for the team to make some kind of swing in free agency, beyond just trades for bottom-six forwards.
Unfortunately, the market is thin right now, and the Leafs are struggling to find those guys who can take the role.
Toronto Maple Leafs miss out on more PTOs
With training camp on the way, you'd think the Leafs would be trying to secure some PTOs. Guys who can work their way onto the team at a low price.
Yet again, on Friday morning, the Leafs were beaten to the punch as the New York Rangers signed veteran defenseman Andrej Sustr. Nineteen players have been signed to PTOs, and the Leafs don't have a single one of them.
#NYR are adding defenseman Andrej Sustr to their training camp roster on a PTO.
Sustr, 34, spent the last three years playing in Europe.
There are now 19 players who have signed #NHL tryout agreements with camps opening next week.
As Frank Seravalli reports, three more PTOs were given out this morning, as the Florida Panthers are responsible for two of them.
Few other tryouts to share:
#Pens Brett Murray
#FlaPanthers Daniel Walcott
#FlaPanthers Josh Lopina
Time is running out, and players are being signed extremely fast. With that in mind, one has to wonder what the Maple Leafs are going to do next.
Fans want to see some movement, and there has been nothing to suggest a signing is coming soon.
