Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev has been sensational this season and ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off, he got some unfortunate news.
Chris Tanev is easily one of the best moves Brad Treliving has done since becoming the General Manager of the Maple Leafs.
Will Chris Tanev play at the 4 Nations Face-Off?
With
Alex Pietrangelo bowing out of the tournament, Tanev's name was being brought up frequently.
However, on Saturday night, Team Canada made a decision that will surely disappoint the veteran D-man.
The team has decided to go with none other than
Drew Doughty, the captain of the Los Angeles Kings.
Doughty had started the season with an injury but has since returned and was playing big minutes, which showed the Team Canada brass that the Defenseman was ready for the challenge.
This really should not come as that much of a surprise to anyone. After all, Doughty has represented Canada on numerous occasions at various levels.
Moreover, his style of play is closer to Pietrangelo, as Tanev just doesn't have the same brand of offensive flair to his game.
So far this season, Tanev has just one goal and 14 points, although his +21 rating is massive.
He has been an impressive player and while he did not make the 4 Nations Face-Off, he should absolutely be proud of the year he is having.
Only time will tell whether or not he can translate this success once the postseason comes around.
