Before the game, Knies spoke about his injury and how he actually suffered a shoulder injury that had nothing to do with his collision with the referee.
"It's kind of a fluky play. Just try to get body position on them. It felt kind of awkward there. It just didn't feel comfortable with my shoulder, and that's kind of the reason I wanted to take some time, heal it up, and make sure I was 100% to go for the next game."
Knies also explained how he knew it wasn't serious but he also wanted to give himself some time to get back to 100 percent.
"I think it was more the initial hit. I think the fall obviously didn't really help it at all either, but fortunate for me, it wasn't anything serious. Just needed a few days to do some rehab and get it back to 100%."
The forward has been a stud for the Maple Leafs this season as he has 19 goals and 33 points.
Knies has been living on the top line and for the most part, he fits in perfectly with guys like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
The Leafs had been struggling offensively since Knies' injury and it should come as no surprise that the team would have an offensive explosion upon his return.
Hopefully, the Leafs are able to keep this up as their road trip continues.
