Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner recently signed with the Las Vegas Golden Knights, although he had one other team in mind going into free agency.
Mitch Marner and the Las Vegas Golden Knights appear to be a match made in heaven, even if that seems to offend Toronto Maple Leafs fans to the core.
Based on the forward's recent comments, it is clear that he had one foot out of the door with the Maple Leafs. It's hard to hear, but at this point, good riddance.
Mitch Marner also wanted to sign with the Los Angeles Kings
With Marner officially in Las Vegas, some new reports are coming out about how free agency could have played out without the Golden Knights' interest.
This was well-documented from the very beginning, as numerous insiders were saying the same thing at the time.
One has to wonder whether or not Marner would have actually been a good fit for the Kings given their current situation.
They haven't exactly improved this offseason. The addition of
Cody Ceci was a bit odd, and the
Corey Perry acquisition doesn't make them any closer to a championship.
Marner, on the other hand, was probably their first choice, and when he went to the Golden Knights, they had to completely change course.
At the end of the day, the NHL can be pretty brutal in that regard, and the Kings found that out in the most extreme sense.
