Nick Robertson just signed a new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, although with an abundance of bottom-six players on the roster, the team is out of spots.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson had his struggles last season, scoring 15 goals in 69 games, while being unable to crack the lineup in the playoffs.
Despite this, Robertson and the Maple Leafs agreed to a new contract that is probably a bit too rich, all things considered.
Since the signing of this deal, there have been all sorts of rumblings that the Maple Leafs would trade Robertson, especially with the abundance of bottom-sixers on the roster.

Nick Robertson and the Toronto Maple Leafs have a problem

Today, Darren Dreger spoke about the Nick Robertson situation and how players like Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf could also be impacted.
Dreger describes the Leafs' situation as an "abundance of bodies." With that in mind, it is clear that there are some moves that will have to be made.
In the eyes of the NHL insider, it is very likely that someone like Robertson, with lots of trade value, ends up saying goodbye sometime within the next few months.
There is no doubt that Treliving was involved in a number of different conversations about players he has under contract and trade scenarios he might have been willing or wanting to move on. And you think of Kämpf, maybe Robertson - Calle Järnkrok is another guy. Those names have been out there for a while. But there's an abundance of bodies at camp. It's around the corner here. And what that means is a real competitive edge should be brought to training camp. What does that look like? Who's going to take advantage of going through the exhibition preseason games?

Robertson, Jarnkrok, and Kampf will have an opportunity throughout the preseason to prove why they belong on this roster.
With that in mind, we expect all of these players to be motivated, as they have a huge opportunity in front of them. Their NHL futures hang in the balance.
Ultimately, this is going to be fascinating to watch, and we are excited for the season to finally begin.
