Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies delivered an elbow to the head of Detroit Red Wings player Simon Edvinsson, and it could have ended very badly.
Matthew Knies has been one of the best power forwards on the Toronto Maple Leafs in quite some time, and this season should be a lot of fun.
He had 29 goals last season, and if he is able to build upon last season, we could have yet another 30-goal scorer on the team.
Knies has bulked up for this season, and it seems like he wants to be one of the meanest scoring wings in the entire NHL. Unfortunately, perhaps his intensity is getting him into some trouble.
NHL does nothing about Matthew Knies
Following the game, there were some fears that Knies could be subjected to punishment from the National Hockey League.
In the end, the NHL Department of Player Safety decided that supplemental discipline for Knies was not necessary. He will not receive a fine or a suspension.
Tonight, the Maple Leafs are playing against the Detroit Red Wings again, although Knies is not going to be in the lineup for this one.
Instead, the team is going to go with a lineup of players who are still trying to win one of the final spots on the roster.
As for Knies, he is gearing up for a season in which his linemates will be
Auston Matthews and a combination of Mattias Maccelli and
Max Domi.
No matter what, there is no denying that we are excited for whatever comes next, and if the Leafs can be the team fans know they can be.
