Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was taken to the hospital on Saturday night following a collision with Matvei Michkov, and the team has an update.
There was a scary scene in Philadelphia last night as Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman
Chris Tanev was taken off the ice on a stretcher after a hit from Matvei Michkov.
The Maple Leafs announced today that defenceman Chris Tanev was evaluated overnight in Philadelphia for precautionary purposes, has been discharged this morning, and will return home to Toronto.
This is good news when you consider the condition that Tanev was in when he was taken away on a stretcher last night.
There were some fears that he could have a severe neck or spinal injury. As it turns out, that is not the case whatsoever.
However, the Maple Leafs play on Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it is doubtful that he will be in the lineup for that.
What's next for Chris Tanev?
Going forward, we imagine that it is going to take Tanev some time before he is able to get himself back into the lineup.
He just came off a concussion, and after presumably suffering another one, it is very unlikely that he ends up back in the lineup so soon.
It is unfortunate, but in the game of hockey, horrible things like this do tend to happen quite frequently.
We can only hope that Tanev is able to make a quick recovery, and return to the Maple Leafs sooner rather than later.
