Matt Murray allowed four goals on 31 shots against the Capitals which isn't terrible by any means, however, there were plenty of goals that he should have been able to stop.
It was his second game back in the NHL since April of 2023, so you should probably give the netminder some grace.
Although after the game, Murray was brutally honest about his own play and how he would have liked to have gotten the win.
This morning, it was announced that Murray had been sent back down to the Toronto Marlies, while Dennis Hildeby was being called back up.
Considering Craig Berube's comments about Matt Murray on Saturday night, this recent move does not come as much of a surprise.
That said, it was previously revealed that Murray would have to be frequently swapped between the Marlies and Maple Leafs as a means of protecting him from the waiver wire.
With that in mind, there is a chance we could see Murray back with the team this weekend as the Leafs have a back-to-back with the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Either way, the Leafs are in for a very interesting week ahead, as their schedule continues to make things difficult for them.
