Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to put an end to their goalie search as they claimed Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Just moments ago, the
Toronto Maple Leafs took former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Cayden Primeau off waivers, as the team needs a backup right now.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the team claimed left-wing forward Sammy Blais, who was put on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.
Earlier this morning, it was suggested that the Maple Leafs would be going after goaltender
Michael DiPietro, who was put on waivers by the Boston Bruins.
However, based on NHL experience, it is very clear that Cayden Primeau was a much better option for this team. You have to love the creativity of general manager Brad Treliving.
Meanwhile, Sammy Blais is a solid fourth-liner who can be used in a defensive role. Of course, it seems like he was brought in due to the injury to
Scott Laughton and the assignment of
David Kampf.
Toronto Maple Leafs plans for Primeau and Blais
These players were taken off waivers because they are going to have to be on the team's NHL lineup to start the season. With that in mind, we imagine
Dennis Hildeby will be sent down, and James Reimer will be let go.
As for Blais, we wonder where Craig Berube will play him, or if he will simply occupy the 13th forward role, while
Easton Cowan is sent down to the Toronto Marlies for development.
Either way, we will have to wait a bit longer to really get a true grasp of what the Maple Leafs' plans are for Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
Whatever the case may be, it is clear that the Leafs are looking to be as creative as possible.
