With NHL training camp wrapping up soon, the Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to put one of their struggling forwards on waivers amid struggles to crack the lineup.

Throughout the entire summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been flirting with the idea of trading center David Kampf, who struggled mightily last season.
The team attempted numerous times to get a deal done, but there weren't any teams out there willing to make it happen. As a result, Kampf remained with the franchise.
As training camp has gone on, it has become clear that Kampf simply isn't good enough to be on this team. This has led to increased suspicion that a move could be coming.
Well, just moments ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that David Kampf would be put on waivers. If he clears, he will be going down to the AHL.
It was also revealed that the Maple Leafs put defenseman William Villeneuve on waivers, which makes sense as he is a prospect with no chance of making the team.
He will likely clear, which will then give the Leafs the flexibility to send him down to the Toronto Marlies and potentially call him up throughout the season.

Toronto Maple Leafs saw enough with David Kampf

Earlier today, Kampf was on the ice with the regulars as Scott Laughton has officially gone down with an injury.
The thought was that Kampf would officially replace Laughton for a few weeks. Now, this waivers news changes things. Although some suspect the Leafs are doing this so they can easily transfer Kampf between the NHL and the AHL in the future.
Whatever the case may be, the Maple Leafs have made a tough decision here, and you have to respect them for doing so right before the season.
Only time will tell whether or not Kampf clears or a struggling team decides to take him on.
