With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to finalize their NHL roster ahead of the season opener, they have decided to place four players on waivers.
In just a few days from now, the
Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Montreal Canadiens in their first game of the season.
With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the Leafs are attempting to finalize the team's roster, once and for all.
Just moments ago, the Leafs got one step closer to doing so, as they placed three defenseman and one forward on waivers.
Max Jones (EDM)
Blais, Kahkonen (MON)
Hodgson, Jenik, Kaliyev, Lycksell, Sogaard, Thomson (OTT)
Benning, Mermis, Pezzetta, Thrun (TOR)
Duehr, Heinola (WIN)
Ultimately, none of these decisions is that much of a surprise, as no one expected these players to make the final roster.
Why are the Toronto Maple Leafs placing players on waivers
These decisions are being made so that the Leafs can have these players clear waivers and eventually make their way to the Toronto Marlies.
Overall, Thrun, Pezzetta, Mermis, and Benning are expected to stay with the organization, as teams can only claim them to put them on an NHL roster.
Ultimately, these players are deserving of the waivers designation considering the Leafs just do not have the space for them.
Over the coming days, we expect more cuts ahead of the October 8th start date for the NHL regular season.
