We Now Know When Connor McDavid Will Sign His Contract Extension with the Oilers

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is up for a new contract next summer, although the Oilers are hoping to get something done before the season starts.
Connor McDavid is easily the best player in the NHL right now, and some might say he is the best player of his generation, even if he doesn't have a Stanley Cup.
Speaking of his lack of Stanley Cups, there are some who believe this will influence whether or not he ends up signing with the Oilers long-term.
He can become a free agent in 2026, and Toronto Maple Leafs fans are hoping he decides to explore his options, only to go back home.
Unfortunately for those same Leafs fans, Connor McDavid is now expected to re-sign with the Oilers, even if only for a couple of more seasons.
Connor McDavid contract extension incoming
There have been reports that a contract extension could very well be signed in the next couple of weeks.
Frank Seravalli of Bleacher Report confirmed as much when he revealed how the Oilers and McDavid are on track to wrap all of this up in a week or two.
I'd expect in relatively short order here, whether it's in the next week or two, that that process will begin to ramp up
For the other 31 teams in the NHL, this is pretty disappointing, as we've never seen a player of Connor McDavid's caliber become a free agent.
It would have been incredible to see what his free agency would have been like and which franchises would have risen to the top of his list.
Instead, fans will just have to deal with McDavid in an Oilers jersey for a few more years.
