Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is off to a blistering start, but the same cannot be said about his teammates, who have dropped the ball so far.
Through nine games this season,
William Nylander has been nothing short of impressive as he has amassed three goals and 12 assists for 15 points.
He has missed two of the last three games with a lower-body injury, although he appears to be ready to step back into the lineup on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
William Nylander gets real about his Toronto Maple Leafs
After practice today, Nylander got to speak to reporters who asked him what was wrong with the Leafs and why they keep losing to bad teams.
The forward gave the simplest answer possible. He said the team keeps making stupid plays, and that's why they can't win anything right now.
I think it's an easy fix.... Just don't need to make stupid plays, and we'll be good.
Quite frankly, it is good advice. If you want to win games at the NHL level, you have to play clean and smart hockey, which is something the Leafs are not doing right now.
Overall, this Saturday against the Flyers provides them with an opportunity to go out and potentially get a big win.
From there, they play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday. The Penguins are a good team and are not nearly as bad as they were last season.
With that in mind, it is going to be interesting to see if the Leafs can get their mojo back and exercise some early season demons.
