With training camp and the preseason winding down, the Toronto Maple Leafs' hot takes are taking on a new life, and Jonas Siegel has some interesting insight.

For the most part, the core of the team is remaining the same. Same defensemen, same goalies, and three new forwards, including Dakota Joshua, Nicolas Roy, and Matias Maccelli.
So far, the vibe at training camp has been solid, with the team's veterans expressing excitement about the team's newest additions.

Jonas Siegel on why the Toronto Maple Leafs are different

Having said that, Jonas Siegel of The Athletic made some interesting comments while discussing the Leafs on TSN 1050's 'Overdrive.'
In his mind, without Marner on the roster this season, things have been 'quiet' and 'dull.' Whether or not that is a good thing is up to you to decide.
I don't know if it's the team being different, I don't know if it's the roster, which is sort of intriguing but not as intriguing as it has been.

I don't know how to say it; it's quiet, it's dull. I think Marner leaving is significant because the Core Four is technically not around anymore. I think it's been somewhat consistent you know in years past in terms of the preseason just being a formality where they kind of know who is going to make the team.

But it feels different this season.

Furthermore, Siegel pointed out that there are now opportunities for rookies to come in and show that they belong on the team. Luke Haymes and Easton Cowan are prime examples.
It has been said that Marner used to bring down the mood, so perhaps him leaving truly is a blessing in disguise. We will only know for sure once the regular season starts.
After that first week of action, we're sure there will be quite a few overreactions to whatever happens.
