Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson is currently in the midst of trying to earn a spot on the roster, although trade talks continue to plague his preseason.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Nick Robertson have had a rocky relationship for a very long time, and that won't be changing anytime soon.
Despite signing a one-year deal this past Summer, there has been no guarantee that the forward would end up on the roster.
The emergence of Easton Cowan has been a sight to behold, and with the team lacking cap space, Robertson is becoming more and more expendable.
Meanwhile, a strong start to the preseason has gone sour, and now, there are more reasons than ever before to just pull the trigger on a deal.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, trade talks concerning Robertson have officially resumed as teams look to fill roster holes.
In fact, David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok have also been named in these talks, which adds a whole lot more gravity to the situation.
I believe they've started reaching out to some teams about their bottom six; so guys like Jarnkrok, Kampf, Robertson; their names are starting to pop up slowly again
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, this was never going to be a surprise, given the fact that the team has wanted to move on from Robertson for months.
There isn't a path for him to get a bigger role with the team, and as a result, we imagine he would like to go somewhere else, as well.
It is an unfortunate situation, to say the least, but that is where the Maple Leafs are right now.
Only time will tell whether or not general manager Brad Treliving can get things done before the regular season officially begins on October 8th.
