Former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas is not a very popular guy these days and his recent oversight is not going to do him any favors.
He is a controversial figure in the city because the team he constructed never went very deep in the playoffs. Of course, now,
they look better than ever. However, Dubas is currently catching heat because of a player he missed out on a few years ago. That player being
Dylan Strome.
Kyle Dubas missed the boat on Dylan Strome
When Strome left the Chicago Blackhawks and was acquired by the Washington Capitals, it was believed that he would be a great value player.
He has three 20-goal seasons in a row, but as it turns out, the
Leafs never even sent him an offer despite the reports that they did.
Wanted Strome on the Leafs bad when Chicago didn't qualify him. Was told by many he was too slow and bad defensively. A friend bumped into him at the CNE that summer and asked him why he didn't sign with the Leafs. Apparently never got an offer
Strome seemed interested in Toronto, but the interest from Dubas was not mutual. Recently, Strome revealed just how much he loves playing in Washington.
«I thought I might never get to this point - where I might never be on a team like this, in a city like this. I don't take any of this for granted.»
Needless to say, the Toronto Maple Leafs completely missed out on what could have been the perfect player for this team's middle six.
For now, the Leafs can only focus on what is in front of them, which is the NHL Playoffs. They are currently up 2-0 on the Ottawa Senators and they will be trying to put the series away as the week continues.
