With the Toronto Maple Leafs finalizing their opening night lineup, guys like Michael Pezzetta and Nick Robertson are left wondering about what's next.

The NHL regular season is set to begin on October 8th, with the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the Montreal Canadiens in what should be a phenomenal matchup.
Of course, going into this game, fans have been curious about what the Leafs' roster will look like, especially since the team has an overabundance of forwards.
Guys like Nick Robertson, Easton Cowan, Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, and Michael Pezzetta are all fighting for the exact same spot on the fourth line.

Easton Cowan the last man in for the Toronto Maple Leafs

Today, the Leafs play the Detroit Red Wings in the preseason, and based on the lineup below, it is clear that Cowan will be playing on the fourth line.
This lineup is comprised of all of the NHL guys, which just goes to show that Pezzetta, Jarnkrok, Kampf, and Robertson are on the outside looking in.
Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Maccelli - Roy - Joshua
Lorentz - Laughton - Cowan

McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - Carlo
Ekman-Larsson - Benoit

Of course, the Maple Leafs are going to have to keep a couple of these guys so that they stay roster compliant and have some backup options.
However, it seems clear as day that guys like Kampf, Robertson, and even Jarnkrok are going to have to be traded or put on waivers.
Given Pezzetta's role with the Maple Leafs, we imagine he is going to remain with the team, as he can be placed in the lineup whenever some grit is needed.
Either way, for these four players, this is not a great place to be, whatsoever.
