Former Maple Leafs 20-goal scorer placed on waivers following slow start

Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kasperi Kapanen proved to be a bit of a slow starter with the team when he joined a decade ago as part of the Phil Kessel trade.
Despite this slow start, Kapanen was able to show his worth by continuing to persevere and eventually start scoring at a decent clip.
For instance, he was able to hit 20 goals in one season which ultimately proved to be his ceiling. Nevertheless, Leafs fans definitely appreciated his effort.
Since leaving the Leafs, Kapanen has been playing for the St. Louis Blues and it has not been the most fruitful relationship for him.
According to Elliotte Friedman, this effort from Kapanen has not been good enough for the Blues. Yesterday, the team put him on waivers.
Kasperi Kapanen on Waivers
If he clears, he will go down to the Blues' AHL affiliate where he could potentially get his confidence back against some weaker competition.
Whatever the case may be right now, it is clear that Kapanen could use some kind of boost at this point.
Some may argue that he should come and return to the Maple Leafs. However, that could be a mistake.
The team is already struggling with its bottom six. It really doesn't need another player who can't even score a goal right now.
Having said that, we wish Kapanen nothing but the best, moving forward. He is a good guy and deserves to have success in the National Hockey League.
It is never easy to see a guy hit waivers when his season is already going poorly.
