Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves has not been an effective player this season, so much so that goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic is outpacing him offensively.
Last night, Alex Nedeljkovic of the Pittsburgh Penguins did the unthinkable as he scored a goalie goal to ice the game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Meanwhile, this game uncovered an interesting statistic that completely embarrasses
Ryan Reaves and his lackluster production.
Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic outscores Ryan Reaves
Firstly, let us look back at Nedeljkovic's goal, which was truly special to watch in real-time.
He picked up the puck from behind his net, spun around, and shot it all the way down the ice while being hit by a Buffalo forward.
After the game, it was revealed that Nedeljkovic was the first goaltender in NHL history to finish a match with a goal and an assist.
This means that the goaltender now has the same number of points as Ryan Reaves, who has had two assists in 28 games so far this season.
The enforcer is barely throwing around hits and he hasn't been particularly interested in fighting either. In fact, Nedeljkovic and Reaves also have the same number of fights: zero.
Of course, these kinds of stats don't really mean much in a material sense. After all, it's not like every goalie in the league is getting two points every night.
However, it should serve as a reminder that Reaves has not lived up to his role this season and the Leafs may need to take action soon.
