Connor Dewar takes advantage of Auston Matthews' injury status

However, it was recently revealed that Dewar was being taken off LTIR. He was subsequently sent down to the Marlies for a conditioning stint.

He played one game with the Marlies and from there, it was assumed that he would stay with the Marlies for a few more games. That all changed when Auston Matthews was placed on the Injured Reserve earlier today.

When the team made the announcement about Matthews, they also came out and revealed that Dewar would be activated from the Marlies and would get to play with the Maple Leafs.

Of course, this is a huge upgrade for Dewar who is now going to be able to show teammates and fans what he can do. This start to the season has certainly been a frustrating one for him.

He has had to watch from the sidelines as the Leafs attempt to maintain some consistency in the age of Craig Berube. So far, the team seems to be getting it together, but with some hiccups along the way.

While Dewar is not a direct replacement for Matthews, he will at least give the team a bit of stability, going forward.
