Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jani Hakanpaa is currently dealing with injury issues and it has put Brad Treliving and the franchise in a difficult situation.
Jani Hakanpaa was brought in during the offseason as a depth defenseman for the team's blue line, however, the team should have known better in regard to his injury issues.
Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving have to do something amid Jani Hakanpaa injury
When the Maple Leafs signed the Finnish defenseman, there were fears that he may never play again.
Now, the Maple Leafs are in need of more depth on their blue line, and according to Chris Johnston, Brad Treliving is looking for some.
Jani Hakanpää's knee remains a big question mark, making his situation uncertain and hard to predict. Given this, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Maple Leafs trade for a depth defenseman before the deadline, similar to the
Luke Schenn or
Ilya Lyubushkin moves they've made in recent years.
Whatever the case may be, the trade deadline is fast approaching, which means a move for a defenseman would have to be made soon.
As for Hakanpaa, he is only on a one-year deal with the team which means his signing was low risk to begin with.
If he does not play another game with the Maple Leafs, no one is going to be super upset about it.
That said, a Luke Schenn reunion is something that Maple Leafs fans should be seeking to welcome with open arms.
