Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch isn't signing a new deal with the team anytime soon, and there is a realistic chance the Toronto Maple Leafs could get him.
Alex Tuch is a player who has proven that he can score a point per game. He has scored 36 goals twice, and he continues to try to make the best of a bad situation.
The Buffalo Sabres are in hockey purgatory, and with Tuch becoming a UFA at the end of the season, there has been lots of speculation about what he will do.
At the end of the day, it is hard to commit long-term to the Sabres. They are a bad franchise, and they haven't made the playoffs in over a decade.
Toronto Maple Leafs could get Alex Tuch
Recently, Elliotte Friedman was asked about the Tuch situation and whether or not a deal would get done soon.
The insider was very honest, noting the team's losses can weigh on a player, and it might make a deal impossible at this point.
When teams start losing you always wonder; I always worry you go into a spiral and you have one of these things hanging over you, it really can affect the possibility of getting a deal done
Tuch would be the perfect player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as he could be used on the team's first line with
Auston Matthews and
Matthew Knies.
He plays on the right wing, which is exactly what the team needs right now. Only time will tell whether or not Brad Treliving goes in that direction.
If it feels like Tuch won't resign in Buffalo, the Sabres may just decide to trigger a trade. This is where the Leafs could get a rental for the playoffs.
No matter what, this is a situation that the Maple Leafs should keep tabs on going forward.
