Toronto Maple Leafs forward Steven Lorentz only played one minute in the first period against the Detroit Red Wings as he took a headshot from Ben Chiarot.
Steven Lorentz is one of the most beloved forwards on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and even got a three-year deal this past summer.
Tonight, he was in the lineup on the fourth line with
Calle Jarnkrok and
Nicolas Roy. Roy and Jarnkrok have goals tonight, showcasing how deep this team really is.
Unfortunately, Lorentz only got to play just over one minute. Early in the game, he took a headshot from Ben Chiarot and was unable to come back.
The game is currently in the second period, and still, Lorentz remains in the locker room. Overall, it seems unlikely that he is going to come back.
During the first period,
William Nylander was being double-shifted on the fourth line, although now, it seems like
Dakota Joshua is taking Lorentz's place.
Whatever the case may be, this is not good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have to deal with an injury so early in the season.
What's next for Steven Lorentz?
Given that this was a headshot, it is reasonable to assume that Lorentz is in concussion protocol. If he is diagnosed with one, he will be out for a while.
That said, the Toronto Maple Leafs are up 2-1 against the Detroit Red Wings, and fans are hoping that they can keep it up.
A win would improve the team to 2-0. Meanwhile, with
Anthony Stolarz standing on his head, it would be a good sign of things to come.
We will just have to wait and see what these Leafs are capable of.
