Max Pacioretty remains a free agent, and with the Toronto Maple Leafs filling out their roster, the forward might be compelled to sign with a team that is in need of depth.
Now, the forward is a free agent, and there has been all sorts of speculation about whether or not he would like to return to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Max Pacioretty has multiple choices right now
In a new piece from The Hockey News, it was suggested that there are five teams in play for Pacioretty, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers were named in the piece, as were all four New York-area teams, including the Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and Sabres.
However, the best odds were given to the Detroit Red Wings thanks to the forward's ties to the state of Michigan.
Pacioretty makes his off-season home in Michigan and played his college hockey with the Wolverines. His family remained there while he played in Toronto, and being away from them was a big factor in his hinting towards retirement immediately after the season. It is likely that in a perfect world, he would want to sign with the Wings, who are desperate to snap a long playoff drought, but there are no strong indicators that GM Steve Yzerman has interest.
The Maple Leafs have already signed a ton of players to the roster, so it remains to be seen if there is still space for Pacioretty.
If not, then a team like the Red Wings would be lucky to have him.
