Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson recently got himself a new contract, and with rumors of him being traded circulating, one insider is dropping a bombshell.
Nick Robertson is under contract for one more season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, although there have been discussions about where the two go from here.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs are also trying to get rid of
David Kampf and
Calle Jarnkrok, who are taking up some precious salary cap right now.
Are the Toronto Maple Leafs trading Nick Robertson?
According to a new piece from Chris Johnston of The Athletic, Kampf and Jarnkrok are still prime trade candidates before the season begins.
"The Leafs could still ship out one or more of Kampf, Jarnkrok or Robertson before the season begins"; "they've been reluctant to part with Robertson because of his age-related upside"
There is a real world in which Robertson takes a massive leap this season and proves to everyone that he is as solid as they come.
If the forward can cement himself as a middle-six forward, then there is a chance the Leafs keep him around and refuse to move him.
The only issue is his cap hit. He is making too much money, and if the Leafs are presented a player like
Bryan Rust, they may have no choice but to pull the trigger.
Whatever the case may be, general manager Brad Treliving has a lot to think about, and this will be a fascinating time for the team.
