Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford is someone that fans are very interested in, although one insider isn't so sure he is the best NHL defensive candidate.
Ben Danford is a defenseman that the Toronto Maple Leafs are banking on right now, although there are some fears about what his ceiling actually is.
Going into training camp, there are some hopes that the defenseman can make an impact and even make a case for himself as a potential option for the Leafs throughout the season.
At 19 years old, he still has some development and growing up to do. Regardless, the hope is that he lives up to some major expectations.
Ben Danford not as impressive as the Toronto Maple Leafs thought
According to reporter Steven Ellis, reporting from the Summer Showcase, the case for Danford is not looking too good right now.
During his time at the showcase, he was fine, but not great. In fact, Ellis believes Danford will be a sixth defenseman at best, and nothing more.

As for another Leafs draft pick, Victor Johansson, he seems to be performing much better, which is one good thing for the Leafs.
But if these reports about Danford continue, then the Maple Leafs might just have to make a tough decision very soon.
The Leafs have a lack of assets to trade, but Danford could be the right asset for a team that is in desperate need of a defenseman.
Whatever the case may be, general manager Brad Treliving should avoid being too impulsive. The decisions must be what's right for the team.
