Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford has a very bright future in the NHL, and his recent comments showcase just how incredible this young man really is.
The Toronto Maple Leafs took Oshawa General defenseman Ben Danford 31st overall with their first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
At the time, this was seen as a good move. The Leafs need more offense on their blue line, and Danford is a kid who can give you that, as well as some grit.
This season in the OHL, the defenseman was fantastic and was recognized for his brilliance with the Bobby Orr Defenseman of the Year award.
Toronto Maple Leafs have a stud in Ben Danford
In a recent piece for The Hockey News, Danford spoke about his development this past season and how he feels now that he is 19 years old and has a potential NHL career in front of him.
Additionally, Danford explained just how much it meant to him to be the captain of a team like the Generals, who have a rich history in junior hockey.
It was surreal. It was an honor to wear the 'C' on a team like Oshawa, especially the organization behind me. All the great players that have come through and the captains that have come through the organization. There's a lot of leaders on our team this year so I was really honored to get recognized like that.
After fighting four times this season, Danford made some eye-opening comments about his toughness. If you are a Leafs fan, you can't help but hear these remarks and get excited.
I feel like it's something that's a part of the game that you lay a big hit, sometimes you have to answer the bell. I feel like I'm comfortable doing that type of thing. I'm not a heavyweight by any means, but I can hold my own.
Ben Danford had five goals, 20 assists, and 25 points in 61 games this past season. While he still has some developing to do, there is no doubt that he has an edge to his game.
It won't be long before he is playing for the Leafs, and we cannot wait to see what he can accomplish with this historic team.
