With the Toronto Maple Leafs having to deal with a leave of absence from Joseph Woll, Henrik Lundqvist has some thoughts about the team's goaltending situation.
Henrik Lundqvist is one of the best goalies of the 21st century, so he knows a thing or two about playing the position and how to do it effectively.
Recently, he was part of a roundtable discussion where Joseph Woll, Anthony Stolarz, and the Toronto Maple Leafs were part of the discussion.
Of course, Woll is on a leave of absence, which means Cayden Primeau is now the backup, and that might not be a good thing.

As Lundqvist noted, things will be tough for the Maple Leafs, as the current meta in the NHL is to have a backup that can get you 15 wins.
In the past, goaltenders only needed to get you half that. As a result, some problems are certainly brewing for the Maple Leafs here.
I was going to say, it used to be you needed a backup to win 5 or maybe 7 games; but that's in the past. Backups now, you need 15 wins or having a guy make 25-30 starts. That's the number for goalies now, what? 55 games tops? So that means that second guy needs to come in and really deliver.
That's what can make a difference if you make the players or not. You know what you're getting out of your starter, but what can the backup goalie do in terms of giving your team wins and you look at who makes it. They all have great tandems with a solid backup.

The Leafs are a good team, but they could end up in a very bad spot if Stolarz were to get injured.
Tonight, the Leafs are back in action against the Detroit Red Wings, and Stolarz will be looking to notch his second win in a row.
As for Cayden Primeau, he aims to make his debut with the team in just a few days from now.
