Golden Knights Humble Mitch Marner with Massive Jack Eichel Extension that Could Cause Problems

Mitch Marner left the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer and signed an eight-year, $96 million deal with the Las Vegas Golden Knights, which pays him an AAV of $12 million.

Going into next Summer, his new linemate, Jack Eichel, was also due to get paid. There were fears that the Knights would not be able to get it done. As it turns out, those fears were overblown.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Eichel has officially signed for eight years at $13.5 million per season. This is a deal worth $108 million total.

Overall, Mitch Marner and his camp were oftentimes spiteful towards guys like Auston Matthews, who made more, while also garnering the captaincy.

Now that Eichel is making more than Marner, one has to wonder if the Marner camp is going to make a stink about it. Surely, they knew what they were signing up for.

With the rising salary cap, Eichel was always going to make more money than Marner. Whether or not Mitch understands that remains to be seen.

Ultimately, Marner is a player who knows how to set up goal scorers. Of course, Eichel can put them in the net with ease, which makes him so dangerous.

However, they have yet to play a regular-season game together, so there is no telling whether or not this partnership is going to be a fruitful one.

For Maple Leafs fans, this will be a story to watch all season long, and we suspect their will be a lot of jeering going on.

Whatever the case may be, the Golden Knights will be a good team for a long time, should Marner remain with the franchise.
