Toronto Maple Leafs Reportedly Gearing Up to Part Ways with Two Struggling Forwards

With the Free Agency period on the horizon, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has a lot to figure out, and that could be bad news for two struggling Maple Leafs forwards.
Having said that, the Maple Leafs have other things to worry about beyond the Core Four. There are weaknesses in the bottom six, and Treliving is going to have to address that.
David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok are two players who come to mind. Kampf barely got to play in the postseason, while Calle Jarnkrok was downright horrible and had very little impact.
In the regular season, Kampf had 13 points in 59 games while Jarnkrok had seven points in 19 games.
Kampf is making $2.4 million per year and has two years left on his deal, while Jarnkrok makes $2.1 million over the next season.
Getting rid of these players would give the Leafs some space to go out and get someone much more useful on offense. In fact, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period suggests the Leafs will be looking to trade, buyout, or even waive one of these players.
Ultimately, there are a lot of free agents available this summer, and the Leafs could stand to benefit from this. If they lose Marner, they will have an immense amount of cap space.
Bottom-six production was their biggest hole last season, and purging themselves of Kampf and Jarnkrok could very well be the solution.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs choose to do that or keep things the same. Hopefully, it is the former.
