Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is likely on his way out of the franchise, however, Darren Dreger claims the superstar wants to at least be helpful.

When July 1st hits, Mitch Marner is expected to explore the open market. In fact, most analysts believe he will leave Toronto for good and start fresh somewhere else.
There are numerous teams around the league that would love to pay him the big bucks. One such franchise is the Las Vegas Golden Knights, who are an attractive destination thanks to the low tax rate.
According to Darren Dreger, there is certainly some mutual interest there. However, the Knights would have to make some moves in order for a Marner contract to make any sense.

Consequently, Dreger believes Marner would be willing to help out the Leafs. If he were to engage in a sign-and-trade, the Leafs would get something in return.
Furthermore, the Golden Knights would get some cap relief, as well as a 100-point player. It would be a deal that works out for both sides.
That list is short. Every player, unrestricted free agent wants to go to a low-tax state. So you're looking at the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars. That's best case scenario. The team I keep coming back to is the Vegas Golden Knights. They obviously have to move out some money. Maybe they do the old sign-and-trade routine. Maybe Marner is comfortable with that because the Toronto Maple Leafs get something back in return and he's not walking out and leaving them with nothing.
If losing Mitch Marner is an inevitability, you might as well get something in return. Not to mention, a sign-and-trade would allow for Marner to get an eight-year deal as opposed to just seven.
Overall, the free agency period is going to be very interesting, and fans are going to be wildly invested.
John Tavares is also up for a new contract, as is Matthew Knies. Needless to say, the Leafs have their work cut out for them here.
Only time will tell whether or not the team improves or gets worse. Ultimately, the goal should be to build a playoff contender.
