Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is going to become a free agent on July 1st and it appears as though he is significantly narrowing down his list of teams.
At this point, everyone seems to be convinced that Mitch Marner will not be staying with the Toronto Maple Leafs. His recent comments seem to suggest that, and even his postseason performance was that of someone who is checked out.
Having said that, Mitch has control over his destiny, and there is a belief that he is already ruling out a large crop of teams from his wish list.
Mitch Marner Free Agency plans
According to Anthony Di Marco of The Daily Faceoff, the Calgary Flames have Marner on their radar. Unfortunately, the feeling likely isn't mutual.
As Di Marco explains, there is a sense around the league that Marner does not want to play for another Canadian team.
As I wrote about a few weeks back, expect the #Flames to look at all top Free Agents this summer.
One would assume that Mitch Marner will be one of them but, speaking with one executive, there is a belief that he will not want to play in Canada should he leave TO.
Overall, it is hard to imagine Marner in another team's uniform. However, fans should definitely prepare themselves for that possibility.
These next few weeks are going to be very interesting, and we cannot wait to see how it plays out. Only time will tell if the Leafs make a big push to keep Marner.
