Alex Steeves has the record for most goals in Toronto Marlies history, but it was not enough for him to ever get a real opportunity with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

When it came to Toronto Maple Leafs prospects, Alex Steeves was among the cream of the crop as his Toronto Marlies production was off the charts.
In the AHL, Steeves had 36 goals last season. Furthermore, he broke the record for most goals in Marlies history, which has to count for something.
However, during his time in Toronto, he only got to play 14 NHL games, it was becoming clearer and clearer that he was frustrated with his predicament.

Alex Steeves leaves the Toronto Maple Leafs

Going into free agency, there was a sense that the Leafs would let Steeves walk so that he could finally get his big opportunity elsewhere.
Well, that is exactly what happened today as the Boston Bruins signed Steeves to a one-year deal worth $850K.
The Boston Bruins are signing ex-Leaf Alex Steeves to a 1-year, $850K contract.

Steeves, the all-time leader in goals with the Marlies, had a phenomenal season in the AHL and spent limited time with the Leafs. He now joins the rival Bruins on a one-year deal.
The Bruins are a team in the midst of a rebuild, and they could use some fortification in the bottom six, which is where Steeves would likely play.
While it does suck to see Alex Steeves go, it was a move that fans had to understand. We wish the kid lots of luck going forward.
Only time will tell whether or not Steeves makes it stick out in Boston.
