Auston Matthews came into tonight's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on a bit of a heater as he had an impressive stretch of five goals in four games.
Meanwhile, Elvis Merzlikins is trying to put on a show so that his Blue Jackets can pull off an upset on one of the Eastern Conference's best teams.
At the time of writing this, the Blue Jackets are actually up by a score of 3-0 and Merzlikins has helped contribute to one of the funniest highlights you will ever see.
In the clip below, the goaltender steals Auston Matthews' stick out of his hands which then leads the Leafs captain to pick up the goalie's stick and play with it for a couple of seconds.
As funny as this all was, the referees did not appreciate the humor very much and decided that they both deserved a penalty.
With this game on the verge of entering the third period, the Leafs are going to have to pick up the pace a bit here.
Ultimately, Dennis Hildeby has struggled mightily and is showing that he may not be NHL-ready at this point.
One has to wonder if the Maple Leafs are going to swap out Hildeby for Matt Murray until Anthony Stolarz comes back.
Meanwhile, Matthews is going to have to carry the offensive load if the Leafs want any realistic chance of getting themselves back in the game.
Hopefully, the Leafs can pull themselves together here and have another comeback like they did on Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.
