Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies Reunite, But Not with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies were a great duo last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and there is no denying that fans are looking forward to what they do this year.

Of course, they will have to navigate the season without none other than Mitch Marner, which is going to make things tougher in the future.

Regardless, Matthews and Knies will have plenty of opportunities to strengthen their chemistry. In fact, they are getting that opportunity well before training camp even begins.

Today, Matthews and Knies were photographed together as both forwards were taking part in USA Hockey's camp. They were both invited to the Orientation Camp for the Olympic team, and it will allow them to get some ice time.

Of course, Matthews is going to be the captain of the team. As for Knies, he was simply invited, and there is no telling whether or not he will actually make the roster.

However, with the Maple Leafs captain serving as a representative of sorts, perhaps Knies can get a good word that ultimately puts him on the roster.

For Maple Leafs fans, all that actually matters is this upcoming regular season, which has a lot riding on it.

After winning the Atlantic Division last season, it feels unlikely that the Leafs will be able to repeat that kind of feat. That said, there is a chance for the Leafs to do something special.

Knies is a player with lots of talent, and he is looking to become one of the game's best power forwards. With Auston Matthews as his center, there is no ceiling on his potential.

Needless to say, we cannot wait for the NHL season to officiall begin in about six weeks from today.
